Jurgs' dedication and drive made things pretty easy for new track and field head coach Barry Streeter. After eclipsing more than 200 feet on a throw against Susquehanna University, Jurgs took third at the conference championship to help the Bullets grab their first team title in 16 years. The former Jefferson Township High School product and Wharton, N.J., native quickly took Gettysburg and the Middle Atlantic Conference by storm as a freshman in 1976.

While his teammates achieved entry because of their exploits on the track, Jurgs received his nomination because of his outstanding accomplishments in the javelin.

Jurgs will be the sixth Gettysburg thinclad from 1976-1979 to gain entry into the Hall, joining former teammates William Geating '79, James Martino '78, Ed Riggs '77, Mark Roddy '77, and Kirby Scott '77.

– The late 1970s was arguably one of the greatest periods of success for the Gettysburg College men's track and field program and that will be further augmented by the addition of former standout Peter Jurgs' 79 to the Hall of Athletic Honor on Sept.
